Types of Interpreting
The interpreting takes place after the speaker has finished speaking or the speaker pauses to allow the interpreter to start interpreting.
How it works.
The interpreter listens to the speech and renders it into the target language through the use of notes and memory. Well-trained interpreters can render 10 minutes of speech with great accuracy.
Another type of interpreting is liaison interpreting, in which interpreters liaise between participants for more general topics and casual settings, such as receptions, exhibition/trade fairs, etc.
When it is used.
This type of interpreting is commonly used for meetings, on stage interpreting, speech, interviews, press conference, and on-call interpreting, etc. Since the interpreter interprets after the speaker finishes speaking or pauses, additional time must be factored in for the interpreting process.
Interpreting while the delegate is speaking or with two-three seconds delay.
How it works.
The interpreter works in a soundproof booth with at least one colleague. When the speaker in the meeting room speaks into a microphone, the interpreter receives the sound through a headset inside the booth and renders the message in the target language into a microphone almost simultaneously. The delegate in the meeting room selects the relevant channel to hear the interpretation through the audience's headset in the language of his/her choice.
Another type is whispering / chuchotage, where the interpreter interprets at the same time as the speaker and whispers the message to the intended audience. This works best for an audience of one or two people because that is the best audio range for whispering.
With a bigger audience, it would be necessary to use equipment to support audio clarity and accuracy. This can be achieved via a soundproof booth (in a fixed place) or a tour guide system (in a mobile following the speaker and audience).
When it is used.
It is commonly used in conferences, seminars or symposiums.
Once we receive your interpreter inquiry, we will evaluate and provide official quotation based on the information (industry, topic, seniority background, skills required, date and time as well as location).
After the quotation is agreed upon, we will propose the most suitable interpreter to achieve your meeting or event objectives.
After the proposed interpreter is confirmed, we will ask for supporting materials for your event/meeting. This is to ensure interpreters know how to address the audience properly and do adequate research and preparation beforehand.
The interpreter will arrive either on-site at your meeting location or off-site via phone call or video conference.
After the project task is completed, you can provide feedback on the interpreter’s performance. This will be used to evaluate the interpreter’s performance.
